Ingredients

  • Sauce Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup reduced sodium soy sauce or gluten-free tamari

  • 1 tbsp honey

  • 4 cloves garlic minced

  • 1 inch fresh ginger peeled and grated

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

  • Main Ingredients
  • 1/2 tbsp sesame oil

  • 1 pound ground beef, 93% lean

  • 1/2 medium yellow onion chopped

  • 1 large head broccoli cut into florets and blanched

  • Garnish
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds

  • 3 medium scallions sliced on the bias

  • For Serving (optional)
  • Cooked rice, or cauliflower rice

  • Alternative Ingredients
  • Substitute honey with maple syrup or agave nectar for vegan options.

  • Tamari can be used instead of soy sauce for a gluten-free option.

  • Olive oil can replace sesame oil if needed.

Directions

  • Sauce Mix Preparation – Combine soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, and grated ginger in a bowl. Add cornstarch and whisk until no lumps remain.
  • Beef Browning – Heat sesame oil in your skillet over a medium-high setting. Place the ground beef and onions in the pan. Break apart the beef with a spatula and sauté until brown, approximately 5 minutes.
  • Sauce Integration – Lower the heat to medium and stir the prepared sauce into the skillet. Continue stirring to blend the ingredients together and cook until the sauce slightly thickens, about 1-2 minutes.
  • Broccoli Addition – Add the blanched broccoli to the pan. Toss everything together to ensure the broccoli is coated with the sauce, cooking for another minute to heat the broccoli through.
  • Presentation – Adjust seasoning if necessary and dish out. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and scallions for garnish. Serve atop steamed rice or cauliflower rice, as preferred.

Equipment

  • large deep skillet
