Ingredients

  • 6 slices bacon

  • 1 large onion chopped

  • 1/4 cup water

  • 2 tbsp white sugar

  • 3 tsp caraway seeds

  • 2 tsp minced garlic

  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes

  • 1/4 tsp seasoning salt

  • 1 large head of cabbage cut into small wedges

  • 1 pound Polish kielbasa sliced

  • Alternative Ingredients
  • Sugar: Honey or maple syrup

  • Caraway Seed: Fennel seeds

  • Polish Kielbasa: Any smoked sausage

Directions

  • Fry bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat until browned. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  • In the bacon drippings, saute chopped onions with water, sugar, caraway seeds, garlic, red pepper flakes, and seasoning salt.
  • Add cabbage wedges to skillet, stir to coat with seasoning mixture, cover and cook on medium for 10-15 minutes until tender.
  • Place kielbasa slices in skillet among cabbage, cover, and continue cooking for 10-15 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
  • Serve cabbage and kielbasa topped with crumbled bacon.
