Ingredients
- Dry Mix
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 tbsp granulated sugar
1 tbsp leavening agent (baking powder)
2 tsp powdered garlic
1/2 tsp fine sea salt
1/4 tsp ground cayenne pepper (optional)
- Wet Mix
1 cup cultured buttermilk
1/2 cup melted unsalted butter
- Cheese and Herbs
1 1/2 cups finely shredded sharp cheddar cheese
3 tbsp melted unsalted butter for brushing
1 tbsp finely chopped fresh parsley leaves
1/2 tsp powdered garlic for topping
- Alternative Ingredients:
Whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose flour replaces all-purpose flour
Honey instead of sugar replaces sugar
Greek yogurt mixed with milk instead of buttermilk replaces buttermilk
Olive oil instead of butter replaces unsalted butter
Vegan cheese instead of cheddar cheese replaces cheddar cheese
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 450 degrees F (232 degrees C). Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.

- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, garlic powder, salt, and cayenne pepper.

- In another bowl or large measuring cup, blend the buttermilk and melted butter until smooth.

- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently with a spatula until just combined to avoid overmixing. Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese.

- On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough lightly about 3-4 times. Roll out to about 1 1/4-inch thickness and cut into rounds using a biscuit cutter.

- Place the rounds on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes until golden brown.

- Mix the additional melted butter with chopped parsley and garlic powder. Brush this mixture over the hot biscuits.
- Enjoy your biscuits warm from the oven.
